Rick Warren, in his book, The Purpose Driven Life writes, "Everyone's life is driven by something...Right now you may be driven by a problem, a pressure, or a deadline. You may be driven by a painful memory, a haunting fear, or an unconscious belief. There are hundreds of circumstances, values, and emotions that can drive your life." He goes on to challenge his readers to be driven (i.e. guided, controlled and directed) by God's purpose for their lives.
If you are a Christian husband you know that one of God's core purposes for your life is to devote yourself to loving your wife with agape love. "Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." Eph. 5:25. This weekend, as you head for home, you may feel driven by many things--the need for some rest, some house projects crying out to be done, the chance to chip away at the other items on your to-do list.
Though these are probably very legitimate goals, may I suggest that you also be driven by a goal you know is God's purpose for you--giving your time energy and devotion to meeting the needs of your wife's heart.

She needs to feel like you are her PARTNER; so help her carry her load. Ask her what you can do this weekend to lighten her load. She needs to feel like you are her SOUL MATE; so make time to listen to her heart. Focus especially on what she is feeling.
She needs you to be the SPIRITUAL LEADER in your home; so talk with her about how the household is functioning and about the kid's needs. Pray with her for the things she is concerned about.
She needs to feel like you are her BIGGEST FAN; so look for opportunities during the weekend to tell her she looks pretty and to praise her inner virtues. Look for opportunities to thank her for the way she serves your family.
If you approach the weekend in this way you may not get all your projects done. But you will know with certainty that you are accomplishing GOD'S PURPOSES for your life. And, you might just have a happier wife!
